Universities

Use this section to see what the ACE Programme is doing for under and post graduates.

Each year the Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Skills Champion contacts each undergraduate student undertaking an engineering related degree with details about the sector, reminding them of contact details and the availability of work placements on the island. This contact usually occurs around October.

Again, each year the Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Skills Champion contacts each final year undergraduate student undertaking an engineering related degree with details of vacancies currently available in the sector seeking graduates, together with application details.

Throughout the year the Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Skills Champion is available for any career guidance, work placement help or advice on any other matter associated with the sector and/or engineering for both island based under and post graduates. Use link here for contact details.

In the future, the ACE Programme is looking to work closer with specific universities where the university, student and an island engineering company might work together on projects.

"Think you need to do a degree in accountancy, finance or business to rise to the top of the corporate ladder? Not necessarily. There are many graduate engineers running successful companies all over the world (and certainly here in the Isle of Man) in CEO or Managing Director positions. Engineering requires strong analytical skills, risk management and strategic thinking - competencies that are highly valuable in the context of business management."

David Hester, Chair of the Engineering and Manufacturing Committee of the Chamber of Commerce.
