"Space, the final frontier...... to boldly go where no man has been before....." as that well known phrase goes. Vast and full of unexplored regions, even in our own galaxy, which could provide the answers to many of our questions and challenges back here on earth. Space also supports life on earth by providing for the presence of satellites in low earth orbit.
The island's engineering and manufacturing sector supports this physically largest of all our areas by providing specialised, high quality optics and measurement devices used in both satellites and surface based equipment; as well as components used in the international space station.
If there was an award for the item made on the Isle of Man that has traveled the furthest away it, would probably go to some optical flats in the Curiosity surface rover (currently on Mars).
