A group of Swagelok Apprentices enjoyed a visit to the impressive Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead on Monday.
They were able to get 'up close and personal' with two ships: One in dry dock having an extensive refurbishment and redesign and another brand new vessel still in construction.
The latter was a £200 million state-of-the-art polar research ship is to be named after world renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. The Apprentices were lucky enough to be accompanied on a full tour of all decks of the ship where hundreds of people were still working hard to complete the steel work and fitting out the ship internally with it sophisticated systems and power plant.
