STEMFest Isle of Man 1st & 2nd October 2019
On the 1st & 2nd of October 2019, over 600 primary school students descended on the Villa Marina in Douglas to participate in STEMFest!
Led by the ACE Committee, STEM Industries came together with a series of interactive stands and activities to bring STEM subjects to life to Year 5 & 6 students from some of the Island's primary schools. There were 3 zones - Engineering, ICT (run by Love Tech, Manx Telecom and PDMS) and the Futures zone, headed up by the Royal Navy!
Students were able to "fly" an Angry Bird through the sky by an ejector seat in the Engineering Zone, learn about and play video games through the ages in the Tech Zone and control Sephro Balls in the Futures zone amongst many other things!
Each of the days culminated in a Science Lesson with a difference in the Royal Hall! Matthew Tosh provided a live demo on the production of Fireworks - using safe, indoor fireworks - which definitely went off with a bang!!
This was a pilot event and we are very hopeful of running something similar again in the future! Our thanks go to the ACE Committee, Isle of Man Government Department of Education, Sport & Culture, Department for Enterprise, all the participating companies and volunteers who allowed the event to go ahead. Our thanks also to the Royal Navy and Matthew Tosh.
